MANDAUE City Hall called on its residents to join a city-wide cleanup drive in tandem with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) next week.

In yesterday’s press conference, Mandaue City Mayor Luigi Quisumbing said he pushed for the cleanup after learning that there were areas that were flooded despite their clearing of the waterways and enforcement of a plastic ban.

He said city residents should check their backyards for stagnant water.

City Health Officer Dr. Edna Seno said they can distribute dengue test kits for free and anyone can go to their office for testing.

She said they also conducted cleanup drives and misting in dengue hotspots like Paknaan, Tipolo, Casuntingan, Umapad, Pagsabungan and Canduman.

Based on a report by the Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (RESU), Mandaue City recorded the most number of dengue deaths from January to October 22 this year, up by two deaths in the same period last year.

Dengue cases from Jan-October were at 863 from 350 cases last year.
