By: Norman V. Mendoza November 02,2013 - 09:05 AM

A 29-year-old man was shot dead while having dinner in his home in Pangan-an Island, Lapu-Lapu City.

Police said the victim Jonas Pugoy was a supporter of reelected Pangan-an barangay captain Virgilio Casiao while the alleged assailant identified as Edwin Abellana, 40, is an errand boy of losing barangay captain candidate Mantor Tatoy.

Police said the victim and the suspect figured in confrontations during the campaign period.

During the election period, authorities placed the island under the Comelec watchlist due to its history of election-related violence.

Police said Pugoy was having dinner with his wife past 6 p.m. Friday when the assailant suddenly barged in and shot the victim in the neck.

The gunman fled after the attack.

The victim was taken to the Lapu-Lapu City Hospital where he was declared dead.

Police conducted a follow-up operation but the suspect could no longer be found.

Police said they believe that the suspect escaped to Bohol province on board a motorized banca.
