Inmates altercation leads to CPDRC lockdown, jail visitation suspended
The Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) has been placed on lockdown and suspended family visitation for inmates on Friday after two groups of inmates allegedly had an altercation in the morning.
Dr. Gil Macato, acting jail warden, clarified that there was no riot inside the jail but a heated verbal exchange between the peacemakers and some inmates.
Visitors scheduled to visit their relatives at the CPDRC for the day were surprised when they were not allowed to enter the jail.
Jimmy Zanoria, who arrived at past 11 a.m., said he together with four others who were visiting their husband-inmates, were not allowed to enter the jail.
Zanoria said that he was told by the jail guard that there was allegedly a riot inside.
At past 1 p.m., Zanoria and the other visitors, who were bringing food for their relatives inside the jail, were still waiting outside.
Later, Macato announced the jail lockdown and the suspension of the visitation for inmates for the day.
