A suspected drug pusher was killed while another eluded arrest during a joint operation that led to a shootout at Sitio V. Rama in Barangay Langtad, Naga City in southern Cebu at past midnight, Sunday.

Operatives of the Naga Police Station together with the Regional Intelligence Unit 7 conducted a buy-bust operation in the suspected drug den of the target, a certain Rabat.

After realizing that they were transacting with undercover policemen, Rabat’s cohort, a certain Michael, fired at the raiding team which prompted the police officers to neutralize him.

Chief Insp. Dexter Calacar, Police Regional Office 7 information officer, said Rabat managed to escape while the shootout ensued.

Michael Baraquel, a resident of Barangay Inuboran in Naga City, was rushed to the nearest hospital in Minglanilla but he was declared dead on arrival by the hospital’s doctor.

Recovered from the suspects were packs of suspected shabu, pieces of drug paraphernalia, a shotgun, assault rifle and assorted ammunition.
