Winning athletes and coaches in the recently concluded 26th Cebu City Olympics will undergo a quick but a much-needed workshop to be conducted today by sports doctor Rhoel Dejaño.

The workshop, which will be held at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC), will be discussing the importance of strength and conditioning training, injury management and other important matters such as proper training using sports science.

Dejaño is the first Filipino to have passed the International Olympic Committee Diploma Course in sports.

Cebu Daily News learned today’s activity when Edward Hayco, the newly re-appointed chairman of the Cebu City Sports Commission (CCSC), hosted a dinner for officials of CCSC, Department of Education-Cebu City Division and some sports stakeholders in his residence.

The workshop is part of the Niños’ preparation for the upcoming Batang Pinoy National Finals slated Nov. 27 to Dec. 3 in Tagum City, Davao del Norte.

About 150 to 200 athletes and coaches who won in last week’s City Olympics will take part in the workshop.

The final composition of the Niños’ line-up for the Batang Pinoy meet will be determined through a selection process. The chosen athletes will also represent Cebu City in the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association competition in February next year in Naga City, south Cebu.

The workshop today is just one of the major plans that the CCSC has laid out for the next years which aim to further develop not just Cebu City’s sports development program but the entire Region 7.

One of the goals of CCSC is to help Region 7 become a strong contender capable of winning the title in the Palarong Pambansa.
