Cebuano student filmmaker won first place in Cinema One Originals competition
A student filmmaker from the University of San Jose- Recoletos (USJ-R) won the C1Minute student short film competition of Cinema One Originals.
Nino Justin Tecson, a Bachelor of Arts Communication student of USJ-R, is the director of the winning short film awarded earlier this evening at the Dolphy Theatre at ABS- CBN Studios in Quezon City, Manila.
No Seguir, the short film’s title, won first place in a pool of other one minuter student short films that entered the competition.
The awarding ceremony was shown live in Cinema One where Tecson was joined by assistant director Brenna Ibale and USJ-R Department of Journalism and Communications Chairman Nestor Ramirez.
Ramirez expressed his joy for Tecson’s achievement.
“Nalipay ko nga nipay off ang atong paningkamot (I’m glad that our efforts paid off). We are bringing the name of the school in this effort to bring filmmaking in the national level,” he said.
He added that the achievement is a confirmation for him as a chairman that what the school has been doing in honing its student is right.
“I know this will open up a lot of opportunities for our students. I hope this will encourage the students and the residents to venture into film,” added Ramirez.
“It feels surreal because out of almost 200 entries, we got to be chosen as the top pick and imagine the challenges to make it happen,” said Tecson in a private message sent through Facebook.
The C1Minute student short film competition is part of this year’s Cinema One Originals Festival.
