Cebu City dad to pass measure to help prevent ATM scams
A Cebu City Councilor, who was one of the victims of recent automated teller machine (ATM) scam, plans to pass a legislative measure at the Cebu City Council to help prevent this kind of scam from happening again.
Councilor Dave Tumulak had a meeting with the victims of the ATM scam along with the personnel from Cebu City Police Office and Cebu Bankers Club (CBC) on Monday morning, where he told them about his plans to pass a resolution that he would want to be implemented immediately.
At least 15 individuals fell victim to the recent ATM scam where an estimated total amount of P3 million were illegally withdrawn from their accounts.
“I will be requiring all the banks to install closed-circuit television cameras (CCTVs) because there are some (banks) that do not have (CCTVs),” he said.
Also in the planned resolution, Tumulak added that once a depositor would withdraw a minimum of P5,000, the bank would inform them through text.
The banks would also be required to have an hourly check on their ATM machines to see if there are ATM skimming devices installed there. Banks would also have to hand over to the police the pictures or videos of the supposed suspects.
Maximo Rey Eleccion, CBC president, promised to assist the victims to fast-track the retrieval of their money.
