Tom, Serge Osmeña mark 100th birthday of late dad, Serging Osmeña, with Mass, floral offering
A visionary leader.
This was how Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña remembered his father, former Sen. Sergio “Serging” Osmeña Jr. who would have turned 100 years old on Sunday.
“We pay tribute to people like Serging Osmeña. That’s his style. He looks ahead so that when the problem comes, the solution is already there,” he said in a speech after a Thanksgiving Mass at the Doña Pepang Cemetery where his father’ was buried.
He recalled the projects pushed by his father during his time which included the now Mactan Cebu International Airport, the Mandaue-Mactan bridge and the North Reclamation Area.
A floral offering was also held after the short program which was attended by members of the Osmeña clan including former Sen. Sergio “Serge” Osmeña III, the mayor’s brother.
City hall department heads, employees, city and barangay officials, and other supporters were also present during the activity.
After the floral offering, an exhibit dubbed as #Serging100 formally opened at the lobby of the legislative building at City Hall.
The exhibit features memorabilia and photos of Serging during his days as a politician and a statesman as well as photos of the Osmeña family.
The exhibit will run until Dec. 9.
