NegOcc players triumph in Cepca chess tilt

YOUNG woodpushers from Escalante City, Negros Occidental emerged victorious in the Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association (Cepca) Kiddies chess tournament last Sunday at the Robinsons Galleria Cebu.

Aeron Keife Sinining of the Escalante Central School and his sister Kirl Charm Sinining took the top spots in the 15-under division against some of Cebu’s best players.

The 15-year-old Aeron Keife Sinining finished with 6.0 points, the same score with eventual second placer Patrick Morala of Cebu, but the former took the boys’ title due to a higher tie break score of 30.5. Morala had 26.5 points.

Rounding off the top three in the division that featured a seven-round Swiss system format was Dwayne Borgonia, who finished with 5.5 points.
Kirl Charm Sinining, 13, scored 5.0 points to secure the girls’ crown.

Jeremy Rose Bajo finished second with 4.0 points while Adelyn Bensi landed at third with 3.5 points.

Under 10

In the under-10 division, Jerish Velarde of Marie Ernestine School of Lapu-Lapu City went perfect with 7.0 points to clinch the boys’ title.

His runners up were Dwayne Vin Abella (6.0) and Dwayne Panaganas (5.0)

In the distaff side, Edelyn Vosotros of the Mabolo Elementary School came out on top by finishing with 5.0 points.

Charliz Cuambot (4.5) and Nicole Mae Mangubat (3.5) wound up second and third, respectively.

A total of 87 young pawn pushers took part in the tournament that aims to provide exposure to aspiring woodpushers.
