Cepca Grand Finals set December 18

ALL is set for the Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association (Cepca) Grand Finals slated on Dec. 18 at the Knight Attack Chess Cafe in Robinsons Galleria Cebu.

The year-ending tournament, which will coincide with Cepca’s Christmas party, will feature the group’s best woodpushers in Group A and Group B.

National Master (NM) Rogelio Enriquez Jr. and Carlo Maraat completed the finalists after a one-two finish in final monthly qualifying tournament last Sunday.

NM Enriquez dominated last Sunday’s tournament to be named the qualifier for the month of November.

Maraat wound up second and was named the qualifier for December.

NM Enriquez Jr. is the reigning grand finals champion as he dethroned back-to-back champion Jimmy Ty in last year’s grand finals which coincided also with Cepca’s 25th anniversary.

Denster Abella and Jojo Paredes were the November and December qualifiers in Group B, respectively.

Each group will will have 12 qualifiers.
