The Cebu City Fire Station won the first fire truck decoration contest in Cebu on Monday evening.

Its engine 193 beat 12 other fire trucks, including Carcar City in the south and Danao City in the north. The station received P10,000 as first prize.

The winning fire truck was adorned with airdancers with the message: Iwasan ang Paputok” and a snowman at the top. A Nativity scene was placed at the front portion of the fire truck.

BFP-7 Director Senior Supt. Samuel Tadeo said the event was aimed at raising awareness in preventing fire incidents, injuries and casualties especially during the holiday season.

“The campaign includes how to responsibly use Christmas lights as well as the use of firecrackers during the holidays,” Tadeo told the reporters.

Tadeo urged the public to avoid overloading Christmas lights to prevent fire incidents. He also reminded them to unplug Christmas lights before sleeping at night.

He encouraged the use of Christmas lights with markers that have passed the standards of Department of Trade and Industry (DTI-7).

The fire truck decoration contest in Cebu City was the first in the region and in the Philippines.

Other winners were Minglanilla Fire Station, which won P7,000 for clinching the second place and Liloan Fire Station which received P5,000 for winning third.

The fire truck decoration contest was followed by a motorcade in 10 barangays, where BFP-7 personnel led by Tadeo distributed fire safety leaflets.
