AFTER almost two years since it was initiated and with the first bidding subsequently declared a failure, the Cebu provincial government is finally moving forward with its procurement of light and heavy equipment to be used for provincial road construction and maintenance.

In a vote of 8-4 and with 2 abstentions, the 14th Sangguniang Panlalawigan approved the resolution authorizing Gov. Hilario Davide III to enter into a contract agreement with joint venture ConEquip Philippines Inc./RDAK Transport Equipment Inc.

Declared as the lowest bidder among four other companies that either did not push through with the bidding process or was disqualified by the Bids and Awards Committee, the joint venture of ConEquip / RDAK is set to supply the provincial government with one lot of various brand-new construction light and heavy equipment in the sum of P227.4 million.

Orvi Ortega, provincial legal officer, said with the approval of the resolution, the notice of award to the joint venture is set to be sent next by Office of the Governor, which will then be followed by preparation of the contract and the notice to proceed.

He said that these road equipment would be a big help in the future, especially since we have many roads in the municipalities and barangays that needed to be repaired and maintained.
