THE UNIVERSITY of Cebu (UC) Webmasters kicked off their build-up for the new season of the Cesafi in style as they took down powerhouse Southwestern University (SWU)-Phinma Cobras, 65-58, in the 2nd Raul Cabanero Inter-Collegiate Basketball Tournament on Friday night at the Bulacao Sports Complex in Talisay City.

The Webmasters’ offense ignited in the second half and they used this to outscore the Cobras, 34-22, to pocket the win.

JR Puerto and Jhan Jabello were the double-digit scorers for UC with a combined 21 points.

SWU, now playing without star guard Mac Tallo, got 13 from former Adamson Soaring Falcon Gerald Fernandez and 10 from Shaquille Imperial.

In the second game, the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars bounced back from their narrow loss to the University of the Visayas (UV) with a 76-51 rout of the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers.

The Jaguars took advantage of the Panthers’ anemic showing on offense in the first half which USJ-R ended with a huge 34-11 lead.

RJ Dinolan was his usual lethal self with 20 points, Miguel Gastador backed him up with 13 while Tricky Peromingan added 12.

Clyde Avancena was USPF’s high-point man with 14.

Action returns tomorrow with UC battling USJ-R at 7 p.m. and CIT-U facing off against SWU at 8:30.
