THE REIGNING Cesafi champions University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers kept their mastery of bitter rivals Southwestern University (SWU)-Phinma Cobras as they emerged victorious, 85-80, in the 2nd Raul Cabanero Inter-Collegiate Basketball Tournament on Saturday at the Bulacao Sports Complex in Talisay City.

Cesafi MVP Rey Suerte sparked the Lancers to their fifth win in as many games by scoring 21 points. He also got plenty of help from Sheldon Gahi, who tallied 13, Monic Soliva, who added 12 and Michael Maestre, who pitched in 10.

The loss dropped the Cobras to 1-3 (win-loss), in spite of the 16 of Daryl Nazareno and the 12 points each of John Lloyd Luz and Shaquille Imperial.

In the other game of the night’s double-header, the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters defanged the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers, 82-64.

Returning big man Melvin Butohan had 20 markers and got backed up by JR Puerto, who had 18. Justine Dacalos and Peter Codilla also scored in double-figures with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

The win placed UC into a tie for the third place with the Cebu Institute of Technology-University at 2-3. USPF remained winless at 0-4.
