THE wife of slain traffic enforcer received a P100,000 financial assistance from the Lapu-Lapu City government.
Acting Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Marcial Ycong handed over the P100,000 check to Jinky Bensi, the wife of slain traffic enforcer Raquel Bensi, inside his office at the city hall at 2:30 p.m. yesterday.

The City Council approved a resolution endorsed by Ycong during last Wednesday’s session presided by Acting Vice Mayor Harry Don Radaza. Radaza said they are also endorsing another resolution recognizing Raquel, who died while manning traffic in Barangay Basak.
Basak Barangay Captain Isabelito Darnayla said he was confident that it was Eric Empaso, also known as “Mano,” who shot Bensi after reviewing the CCTV camera. Empaso was not wearing a helmet while riding on the back of a motorcycle when he allegedly shot Raquel.

Empaso was also tagged as responsible in slay attempts on Darnayla in April last year and City Traffic Management System (CTMS) chief Frank Brazil in August last year.

According CTMS desk officer Monchito Raymundo, Raquel had been a traffic enforcer for 15 years. But he lately caught the ire of drivers since he had been apprehending unregistered tricycle drivers along Cebu Light Industrial Park in Barangay Basak and had the tricycles impounded.

Raquel left his wife and three daughters who are currently studying in elementary and high school. The wife was worried how she could continue supporting the studies of their children.

Jinky said they were planning to leave their home after her husband’s burial tomorrow for fear of their lives.
