JINS FROM the S.T.A.R Taekwondo Gym delivered gold medals for Cebu in the National Carlos Palanca Jr. (CPJ) Taekwondo Championships last Sunday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Manila.

However, their haul wasn’t as impressive as last year.

The poomsae jins of coach Glenn Lava were able to win three gold medals in the tournament that features the best of the country. All in all, the Cebu pack finished with three gold medals, two silvers and seven bronze medals. But this was far from what the Cebuanos hauled last year, when they finished with a 6-6-10 (gold-silver-bronze) record.

Gold medalists for Cebu were Aidane Laxa, Cheyena dela Fuente and Crystal dela Torre, who won in the team female category of the juniors division.

Johan Concepcion also snatched a gold for the Cebu as he emerged triumphant in the individual male cadet category. He then teamed up with Nohea dela Fuente to win another gold in the mixed pair cadet category.

The sparring team of Cebu failed to deliver a single gold this year.

Nica Garces and Royda Ranile, favorites to win golds after a successful stint last year, were only able to salvage a bronze medal each this time around.
But Lava remained optimistic of his wards.

“Other regions just became stronger. At least most of our players ended with a medal,” Lava said.
