Robbery cases rise due to drug use: Lapu cop chief

ABOUT 10 robbery cases occur in Lapu-Lapu City daily this month, five more than the same period last year, the police said.

Senior Supt. Rommel Cabagnot, Lapu-Lapu City police chief, blamed the rise in robbery cases to drug users who have been emboldened to commit crime after the PNP was ordered to drop their anti-illegal drug operations.

“Pait kaayo kay kataw-an ra atong mga pulis sa mga drug pushers (Drug pushers just laugh at our police),” Cabagnot said. He said they are coordinating with barangay tanods to help monitor these drug users who resort to robbery to sustain their habits.

Cabagnot said he ordered both mobile and foot patrols to work overtime in conducting random checkpoints especially in the evenings.
