Finals in top divisions to be held today as 14th Thirsty Football Cup tourney closes
The ERCO BRO FC lived up to its billing as one of Cebu’s elite football teams after the squad claimed the inaugural mixed-open division title Saturday in the 14th Thirsty Cup at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC) field.
ERCO BRO FC collected 13 points from four wins and a draw in the festival format tourney. Don Bosco Alumni finished second with 10 points from three wins, a draw and a loss.
Maan Sollano was named the new category’s MVP.
ERCO FC opened its campaign with a 3-0 win against Real Galaxy FC, then blanked Bergens FC, 2-0 before settling with a 2-2, draw against Don Bosco Alumni. It dumped Up United FC, 4-1 before crushing Fuerza Cebuano, 4-0.
Ilonggos rule
Meanwhile, another Ilonggo team emerged on top yesterday as Tamasak FC ruled the mixed-under 11 division. The Iloilo City team beat another visiting squad, San Carlos City FC in their championship match, 1-0.
Last Friday night, Iloilo’s CNN Dolphins became the first visiting team to win in the tournament by dominating the mixed-under seven class.
Novey Paraiso was named MVP in the mixed-under 11 division.
Tamasak FC made the finals by topping Group 6 with nine points while San Carlos City ruled Group 7 with seven points.
Tamasak FC defeated highly favored Don Bosco Technological Center (DBTC) Team A and D in the quarterfinals and semifinals respectively.
San Carlos City on the other hand crushed DBTC Team B, 2-0, in the quarterls and PAREF Springdale,1-0, in the semis.

Bosconians shine
The Ilonggo surge however, was halted when DBTC-A toppled Tamasak FC, 3-0, in the 13-under boys championship with JP Orbe clinching the MVP plum. DBTC-A finished Group 3 with nine points while Tamasak FC topped Group 5 also with nine maarkers.
DBTC-A beat Oroquieta City’s Hermie FC, 2-0, in the quarterfinals and Cebuano team Giuseppe FC, 1-0, in the semis.
DBTC-A added another win yesterday when it lorded the mixed-under nine division, beating sister team DBTC-D, 1-0, in the finals with Gabriel Tabar winning the MVP award.
In the men’s 38-above division, the Boys High Alumni nipped heavy favorite Queen City United, 2-1 via shootout after a scoreless regulation to walk away with the division crown. Raymond Cordova took MVP honors.
The boys under-17, women’s open, men’s open, girls-under-17, girls-under 19, boys under-19 and the boys under-15 are the divisions left to be completed in the event that will end today.
