The Rotary Club of Metro Mandaue 2006 held its first-ever “Rotary Minds: The Mind Quiz Show” on Thursday at Mandaue City Sports Complex.

About 25 teams composed of four members from Grades 7, 8, 9 and 10 from the different public and private high schools in Mandaue City participated in the event.

“We also held this event to give awareness to the youth about what Rotary is doing for the community,” said club president Isaias Iziel Culanag Jr. during the contest’s press conference.

Medals and cash prizes awaited for top four teams while a perpetual trophy was to be given to the winning team which will be in the school’s possession for about a year.

The trophy will be turned over to the next winning school for the succeeding installments of the quiz show.

“It is our intention to make this a yearly tradition and bring it perhaps in the provincial or regional level,” Culanag said.

Culanag said that better education is one of the club’s thrusts as an organization that puts forward the welfare of the community through various social outreach projects.

Culanag added that they aim to inspire students in various communities to persevere in attaining good education and to work hard towards realizing their dreams.

“Be determined. Dare to dream big and declare what you want to be in the future. If you want to serve the community then you must begin to make that step now. In your own little way, you can make a dent in the world by helping your home, school or community,” Culanag told the contestants before the start of the contest proper yesterday.

Rotary Minds: The Mind Quiz Show was co-organized by the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc.

Among the projects organized by the club in the previous months were tree-planting activities, distribution of medical supplies to various medical centers and extending medical assistance to dengue victims, among others.

The Rotary Club of Metro Mandaue 2006 is also encouraging individuals to become a Rotarian with a heart for public service.

“You don’t have to be a professional or an accomplished individual to be one of us. We welcome anybody to be a Rotarian as long as you have the passion and dedication to serve the community,” Culanag said.
