Fernandez files libel charges against Peping Cojuangco
Former Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) player Ramon Fernandez who now sits as commissioner of the Philippine Sports Commission has filed libel charges against Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) President Jose “Peping” Cojuangco Jr. at the City Prosecutor’s Office on Tuesday afternoon.
Fernandez said that his complaint stemmed from the allegations that Cojuangco made against him during an interview with the Philippine Sportswriters Associations in Metro Manila last March 6, 2017.
According to Fernandez, Cojuangco called him “somebody who threw away games” and a “game-fixer,” claims which he said appeared in an article of a national newspaper the following day.
Prior to the filing the libel case, Fernandez and Cojuanco have been embroiled in a word war as the former had always been critical of Cojuanco’s leadership in POC.
