XTERRA World champion Mauricio Mendez of Mexico will compete in the Cobra IronMan 70.3 Philippines that will be held in Cebu on August 6.

Mendez will be part of the 2,600 triathletes from more than a dozen countries who will compete in the annual international triathlon race that features a 1.9-kilometer swim, 90k bike and 21k run. The race starts and finishes at the Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort and Spa in Cebu.

The 21-year-old Mendez dominated last year’s Xterra World Championships held in Maui, Hawaii.

Joining Mendez in the competition are defending champions Tim Reed of Australia and Caroline Steffen of Switzerland. Other noted contenders are Tim Van Berkel, Sam Betten and Dimity Lee Duke, who are all from Australia.
