THE CENTRAL Visayas swim team relied on Razel Grace Cabajar to take off to a hot start in the National Private Schools Athletics Association (Prisaa) competition in Iba, Zambales.
Central Visayas bagged six golds, six silvers and five bronze medals in swimming to take the second place as of 12:21 p.m. yesterday.
The 18-year-old Cabajar, who won last year’s Most Outstanding Swimmer award, lived up to her pedigree as she delivered two of the six gold medals of Central Visayas, winning the 50m freestyle with a time of 30.74 seconds and the 50m butterfly seniors by clocking at two minutes and 50 seconds.
Other gold medalists for Central Visayas were University of San Carlos’ Ruliben Deligero and Pia Cardinal, who ruled 100m men’s breaststroke and 100m women’s freestyle, respectively. The CV relay team won two gold medals, the women’s 200m medley seniors relay and the 400m men’s freestyle relay.
Leading the medal haul in the swimming after the opening day is Region 6, which tallied 12 golds, 10 silvers, and six bronze medals. Region 11 is at third with six golds, one silver, and six bronze medals.
Central Visayas still has a chance of taking the lead as over 20 events have yet to be played.
In beach volleyball, the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) girls team advanced to the crossover knockout semifinals after going undefeated in the elimination round.
The team beat Cordillera Administrative Region, 25-4, Region 3, 25-10, and Region 4-B, 25-9, to take the lead in the standings with a 3-0 (win-loss) record
On the other hand, the USPF women’s beach volleyball team lost to Negros Island Region, 12-21, 10-21, after winning its first match against Region 2, 21-14, 21-1, last Monday for a 1-1 (win-loss) card.
