The Talisay City Aqua Stars and San Fernando Spartans prevailed over separate opponents at the close of the elimination round in the South Division
Bracket 1 of the 2017 Cebu Governor’s Cup 21-Under Inter-Cities/Municipalities Basketball Tournament at the Argao Municipal Gym, last Friday night.
Talisay City thumped host squad Argao, 89-77, while San Fernando downed the City of Naga, 75-69.
Talisay, San Fernando and Minglanilla all ended the eliminations with four wins and one loss. Talisay and Minglanilla ended up taking the number one and two spots owing to their superior quotients at 1.151 and 1.025, respectively.
San Fernando wound up with a 0.832 quotient.
Jhiey Paraldo spearheaded Talisay’s victory by firing 33 points. Backing Paraldo were Elmer Echavez, Richmond Lapinid and Bruce Dale Tan, who combined for 40 markers.
Christian Paller piled up 24 points, while Jeto Cristobal and Carlo Niño Kintanar added 10 each for Argao, which ended the initial with a 2-3 (win-loss) record.
In the North Division Bracket 2, Tuburan and Balamban brightened their chances of advancing to the next round after they defeated separate foes at the Borbon Municipal Sports Complex.
Balamban improved to 3-1 after nipping Carmen, 78-63, while Tuburan stayed unbeaten after four games by beating Asturias, 84-74.
The Borbon Gilak, on the other hand, shone in their home floor as they spanked the Sogod Warriors, 87-73.
Improving to 2-4, Sogod drew 34 points from Jefferson Bercero with Jay Cutamora, Renel Noynay and Niño Joshua Caballero chipping in 15, 14 and 11, respectively.
Sogod, which dropped to 2-3, was led by Christian Rivera’s 19 points. Carl Ace Berenguel donated 17, while Rhodnie Bregente added 14.
