NBI seizes fake motor parts

A TEAM from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Manila seized a number of alleged counterfeit motor parts in the cities of Cebu, Mandaue, and Lapu-Lapu yesterday.

An inventory of the confiscated items were still done as of 5 p.m. yesterday.

“Our counterparts in Manila is on top of the operation. They simply notified the NBI-7,” said NBI-7 Assistant Director Dominador Cimafranca.

The agents, armed with a search warrant issued by the court, conducted the operation at around 9 a.m. yesterday.

Republic Act 8293 or the Intellectual Property Law holds liable “any person who shall, without the consent of the owner of the registered mark use in commerce any reproduction, counterfeit, copy, or colorable imitation of a registered mark or the same container or a dominant feature thereof in connection with the sale, offering for sale, distribution, advertising of any goods or services including other preparatory steps necessary to carry out the sale of any goods or services on or in connection with which such use is likely to cause confusion, or to cause mistake, or to deceive.”
