Mandaue City continued its stellar run in the 2017 Cebu Governor’s Cup Under-21 Inter-Cities/Municipalities Basketball Tournament after it nipped Balamban, 92–63, last Friday night at the Bantayan Sports Complex in northern Cebu.
Mandaue snatched its second straight win in the quarterfinal round of the North Division while improving its overall record to 7–0 (win-loss) in the tournament spearheaded by the Cebu Provincial Sports Commission, which is headed by its executive director Atty. Ramil Abing.
Christopher Isabelo fired five three-pointers in finishing with a team-high 17 points as Mandaue followed up its 117–110 win over Tuburan last Monday.
Jancork Cabahug backed Isabelo with 15 points, while Aljie Mendez and Froilan Mangubat also wound up in twin digits with 13 and 11, respectively.
John Albert Sacayan tallied 13 points, Marven Cortes added 12 points and Chris Lloyd Zosobrado had 10 for Balamban, which dropped to 0–2 in the quarters.
Meanwhile, Bogo City banked on a searing first-half attack to prevail over Bantayan, 91–85.
After dropping its first quarterfinal assignment versus Consolacion, Bogo went to work early and led big after the first period, 31–19.
The lead increased to as many as 21 points, and Bogo never looked back.
Justine Valenzuela paced Bogo with 15 points, Augustin Salundaguit and Johndel Balazuela contributed 11 apiece, while Michael Vincent Sendrome donated 10.
John Ray Caracena topped Bantayan with 26 points, while Romeo Sumbi Jr. and Joshua Renz Ortiz finished with 10 each.
Pocketing a second straight victory was the Consolacion Sarok, who pulled off a 91–77 victory over Tuburan.
Emmanuel Villamor showed the way for Consolacion with 20 points, while Marco Panta, John Kirck Gonzaga and JC Escalona pitched in 15, 13 and 11, respectively.
Mike Parilla finished 20 points, Joycelee Oropino netted 1, Miguelito Jusay had 12, while Romyr Kirt Gonzaga piled up 10 in Tuburan’s second defeat.
