TOP Cebuana tennis player Elizabeth Abarquez kissed her title hopes goodbye after she bowed to lower seeded Tracy Llamas, 1-6, 7-6 (4), 8-10, in the 16-U semifinal round of the Palawan Pawnshop – Palawan Express Pera Padala (PPS-PEPP) yesterday in Isulan, Sultan Kudarat.

Ranked number two by the Unified Tennis Philippines (UTP), the 15-year-old Abarquez couldn’t complete a comeback against Llamas, who is the fourth best player in the UTP rankings.

“It was a bad loss and I think I need to practice more because I lacked stamina,” said Abarquez.

With the loss, Abarquez is no longer in the running for a three-month tennis scholarship in the Macs Crankit Tennis Academy in Australia.

The training abroad, scheduled late this month, will be awarded to the tournament champion.
