THE 1998 Sipat and the 1999ers fortified their share of the top spot in Division 2 as they emerged victorious over the weekend in the USC North Alumni Basketball Conference Summer League 2 Powered by Common Ground at the USC North Campus gym.

The Sipat vanquished the 2000 Millennium Bugs, 71-65, while the 1999ers clobbered the 1996 Chubbies, 73-58.

The two winning squads finished the elimination round with the same 5-1 win-loss records but the Sipat grabbed the outright semis spot by virtue of their win over the 1999ers in the elimination round.

1998’s Cromwell Po flirted with a double-double as he had 21 points and nine rebounds while Criz Matunog added 15 markers.

Meanwhile, four players scored in double figures for 1999 led by the 14 points and nine boards of Mark Capili and the 13 markers and nine rebounds of Joseph Bragat. Jess Minoza also had 13 while Tope Osorio chipped in 10.

The top seed advances to the semifinals while the second, third and fourth seeds will duke it out with the fifth, sixth and seventh seeds, in the quarterfinals, armed with a twice-to-beat advantage.
