Fiel sizzles in Cepca-Argao chess tournament

YVES Fiel brought home the blitz chess crown and won all his matches in the team event to shine the brightest in the Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association (CEPCA) Versus Argao Chess Club Team Chess tournament held over the weekend at the Argao Training Center.

Aside from beating Cepca’s Carlo Maraat in their two encounters in the team competition, Fiel of Argao Chess Club also went unbeaten in the five-round blitz tournament where he toppled Eddie Flores, Vicente Cañada, Jay Romero, Richard Ouano and Hector Villamora.

Fiel’s teammate Eddie Alesna placed second with 4.0 points followed by Ouano with 3.5 points.

Cepca and Argao Chess Club finished the team tournament in a tie after each team grabbed a single win in the two-round competition.

Cepca took game one with 7.5 points against Argao Chess Club’s 6.5 points while the latter bounced back by scoring 7.5 points against the visitors’ 6.5 points across 14 boards.

After the tournament, Cepca, led by its president Engr. Jerry Maratas donated two chess clocks and five chess sets to Argao Chess Club to strengthen their camaraderie.
