RECOGNIZING the role of art and technology in advancing advocacies, the City Office for Substance Abuse Prevention (Cosap) is launching a filmmaking contest in its campaign against substance abuse.
Garry Lao, the new chief of Cosap, said that entries will be judged in time for the Anti-Drugs Awareness Month this November.
Launching of the contest is within the month of August to give participants ample time to prepare their entries.
“Moving pictures or movies are, as we know, powerful tools in sending important messages and in influencing the minds of the audience especially the young. Cebu has an abundance of independent, creative and brilliant filmmakers, so we thought of tapping this vibrant and resourceful sector of our community,” said Lao.
Since the submitted films will be used by Cosap in its educational campaign in schools and the barangays, the entries must depict the horrors that drugs will bring to the lives of an individual, as well as his family and his community. They may also show other stories of substance abuse, which could help in Cosap’s information campaign.
Registration details and guidelines will be announced soon. First prize winner will receive P50,000.
