TRAGEDY IN EVENT

Netizens showed both sympathy and concern to 47-year-old triathlete Eric Nadal Mediavillo who died while on track during the start of the 1.9-km swim course at the beachfront of Shangri-La’s Mactan Island Resort and Spa in Lapu-Lapu.

FireSign Aries said, “To whomever shall claim that this sport doesn’t kill is a complete moron! They should have a crash course on Physiology & Anatomy.”

A netizen, Tirso Go, wrote, “Cannot withstand the pressure…45 above is no good for a triathlete.”

Another netizen, Godof War, said, “Ang proper procedure naa jyud ka medical clearance nga fit moapil aning triathlon (The proper procedure before joining IronMan is to have a medical clearance stating that one is fit to join the triathlon).”

As of press time, the organizers of Cobra IronMan 70.3 Philippines have yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
