The Bujiwa team from Seoul will be among the groups that will entertain visitors attending the four-day festival, which will start on September 28, at the SM City Mall in Cebu City.

Experience Korean culture, food and products during a four-day festival scheduled from September 28 to 30 at the SM City Mall in Cebu City.

Sang Hyun Kim, vice president of the Cebu Korean Association Inc., said the festival that is now on its seventh year is their way of making Filipinos, especially Cebuanos, understand their way of life.

Kim said there are now more than 20,000 Koreans in Cebu to study, do business and for leisure.

He said that because of their growing number, Korean restaurants, which now total to more than a hundred, have also started to mushroom in the cities of Cebu, Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu.

The hosting of their annual Korean Festival, Kim said, is their means of sharing their culture to the Cebuano community who do not know much about them.

“We want Filipinos to enjoy. They do not know the Korean culture,” Kim said in an interview on Monday.

The four-day event will include a Korean film festival scheduled from September 28 to October 1 at the SM Cinema 5 and will feature five films that will focus on the theme “Boldness of the Youth.”

A team from the Incheon Gehang Ltd. that is dedicated for the creation of job opportunities for differently abled Koreans will also be putting on display pouches and fashion accessories among others at a Korean Bazaar that will be held at the SM North Wing Atrium.

Those who want to taste Korean food like the In Jul Mi, a traditional Korean dessert, and experience how to make these can visit their Exprience Zone that will be placed at the SM Mall Atrium D.

A food tasting area will also be set up for those who want to try their tteok (Korean rice cake), kimchi, japchae (Korean noddles), bulgogi (meat) and Korean rice wine.

While at the Experience Zone, visitors can also join in their tal key chain and booche (traditional hand fan) making activity and get to try to wear the Hanbok, the traditional Korean costume.

For a better experience of Korean meals, The Korean Women’s Association of Cebu is organizing a Korean Food Festival at the SM V-Hire Terminal Open Parking area from September 29 to October 1.

To provide Cebuanos with entertainment, the association is bringing to Cebu Kpop idol group Double8, the Bu-ji-hwa Team from Seoul and the Namsan Samulnori Team from Busan among others.

“Bu-ji-hwa” means a mixture of performances composed of Korean folk dances, songs, pansori, theatricals, fusion-chamber music and percussions, while “Salmunori” is a genre of percussion music that originated in Korea. This is performed using four traditional instruments: kkwaenggwari (a small gong), jing (a larger gong), janggu (an hourglass-shaped drum) and a buk (a barrel drum similar to the bass drum).

On September 29, 25 Kpop groups will also compete in the Cebu Kpop Star 2017 competition that will be held at the SM North Wing Atrium.

The winner group will bring home P50,000 cash prize.
