CEBUANA Olympian Mary Joy Tabal and the other gold medalists in the recent 29th Southeast Asian Games will be at the House of Representatives today for a courtesy call.

This is to give each athlete recognition for winning a gold in the biennial multi-sporting meet held last August in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The 28-year-old Tabal from Barangay Guba, Cebu City, ruled women’s marathon of the meet. She clocked two hours, 48 minutes and 26 seconds, beating Hoang Thi Thanh of Vietnam (2:55.43) and Natthaya Thanaronnawat of Thailand (2:58.17).

Her gold was one of the 24 won by the Philippines, which finished sixth in the 11-nation meet.

Kiyomi Watanabe and Trenten Anthony Beram, both with Cebuano blood, will be joining Tabal.

The Japan-born Watanabe ruled the 64-kilogram division of women’s judo while the US-born sprinter Beram topped the 200-meter dash.

Last month, the Olympian Tabal and the rest of the country’s gold medalists also paid a courtesy call to President Rodrigo Duterte at the Malacañang Palace.
