Pañeros, Bad Boys bomb rivals; Gilas Defenders, Subzero Idols log close wins

THE Pañeros leaned on a balanced offense and a choking defense to scuttle rookie team Cavaliers, 77-44, Saturday night in the resumption of the IBP basketball tournament at the Capitol Parish Gym.

Rene Abcede paced the Pañeros with 12 points while Fiscal Erjun Narido and Ronald Luib chipped in 10 markers each.

In the second game, Reman Manubag had a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds, leading the defending champion Subzero Idols to a close 62-57 win over the Rebels.

Luke Fernandez led the losing Rebels with a game-high 13 points.

Meanwhile, Tope Ang canned a booming trey and an unmolested drive in the waning seconds as the Gilas Defenders survived the gritty Spartans, 63-59, for their second straight win.

Ang led all scorers with 20 markers and five boards while Bas and Ligutan backed him up with 13 and 10 points, respectively.

The Spartans had a chance to steal the game, but poor free-throw shooting doomed their chances. Redem Regis led the team with 17 points and 8 assists.

In the evening’s final match, newly appointed Judge Ferdie Esperidion Riveral scored 10 of his 20 points in the first quarter as the Bad Boys lived up to their team moniker by blasting YLAC off the floor, 84-50.

Fiscal Rogelio del Prado also made good account of himself with 16 points as the Bad Boys scored the night’s biggest rout.
