SWU, USC go for title today after scoring Game 1 wins
The Southwestern University (SWU)-Phinma girls team and the University of San Carlos (USC) boys squad go for the kill in the F2 Logistics Cesafi secondary volleyball tournament today at the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) covered court.
This after both squads pulled off separate victories in Game 1 of their respective finals games yesterday at the USC gym.
The USC boys’ squad defeated SWU via come-from-behind fashion, 20-25, 22-25, 25-22, 25-15, 15-10 while the SWU girls’ team also overcame an opening set meltdown to score an 18-25, 25-21, 25-22, 12-25, 15-9 triumph over USPF.
Despite the victories, the coaches of both squads believe adjustments still need to be done entering Game 2 today.
“Our fighting spirit was really there,” said SWU head coach Roy Ulan. “But we’re not that consistent as you can see. We still have to improve more on our focus on the game.
For USC boys mentor Jonrey Sasing, defense will play a crucial role as the team looked to avoid a repeat of last year’s performance wherein they took a 1-0 series lead in the finals over USPF before dropping the next two.
“We have to continue the momentum and tighten our defense,” Sasing said.
Meanwhile, the University of San Jose-Recoletos defeated the University of Cebu (UC) 25-14, 25-19 to take the third place in girls play.
USPF also defeated UC, 18-25, 25-22, 25-18, to take the bronze medal in boys’ battle.
