Cebu City Sinulog Cup Basketball Invitational set January 8 to 13
The new year’s basketball season will kick off on a rousing note as the Cebu City Sinulog Cup 2018 Basketball Invitational commences on January 8 at the Cebu Coliseum.
PBA D-League squad Marinerong Pilipino will be competing against four local squads in the reigning Cesafi champions University of the Visayas-SG/ARQ Builders, the University of Cebu-M. Lhuillier, the Cebu Landmasters Inc. and the University of San Jose-Recoletos.The tournament runs until January 13.
The tournament was launched in a press conference yesterday at the Yayoy’s Grill and Resto Bar, which was attended by Cebu City Councilors, Jerry Guardo and Jun Gabuya, Cebu City Sports Commission chairman Edward Hayco, and University of Cebu head coach Raul “Yayoy” Alcoseba.
Guardo announced that this tournament would just be the first of what they hope would be three tournaments to be held this year. After this, another one will be organized for the summer and one before the Christmas season.
The champion squad will bag P75,000 while the runner-up will receive P50,000. The third and fourth place squads will bring home P30,000 and P20,000, respectively.
All eyes will be on Marinerong Pilipino in this competition as they seek the title with a squad led by holdovers Achie Iñigo, Renzo Subido, Mark Isip, Jon Lopez, and Zach Nicholls, along with newcomers Kyle Toth and UAAP Mythical Five member, Alvin Pasaol.
UC, meanwhile, will be parading several newcomers led by former Southwestern University-Phinma stud John Lloyd Luz.
