REIGNING International Boxing Federation (IBF) world flyweight champion and three division world champion Donnie “Ahas” Nietes had no problem getting the contracted weight to greenlight his first title defense against Juan Carlos Reveco of Argentina today in the Super Fly 2 Boxing Event of HBO Boxing After Dark at The Forum in Inglewood, California.

The 35-year-old Nietes, of Murcia, Negros Occidental and the pride of ALA Boxing Gym in Cebu City tipped the weighing scale at 111.6-pounds, a bit lighter than the 112lbs weight limit.

Reveco, on the other hand, initially weighed 112.2lbs but the 34-year-old former two division world champion got the weight in his second try after removing his underwear.

Nietes spent one month training at the Wild Card Gym of renowned trainer Freddie Roach in Los Angeles to prepare for his first title defense. He won his IBF strap after beating Thai Komgritch Nantapech last April 29 in Cebu City via unanimous decision.

“Donnie had a very productive and very good training camp at the Wild Card Gym. He was able to spar with another Filipino world champion Brian Viloria and they both learned from one another,” said Edito Villamor, Nietes’ trainer.

Nietes, the longest reigning Filipino boxing world champion, has a record of 40 wins with 22 knockouts along with a single defeat and four draws. He is a world champion for 10 years and five months already while Reveco, a former WBA and IBF world flyweight champion, has a record of 39-3-0, 19KOs (W-L-D).

The main event will feature WBC world super flyweight champion Srisaket Sor Rungvisai versus Mexican Juan Francisco Estrada while the co-main event pits Viloria and Ukranian Artem Dalakian for the vacant WBA world flyweight title.
