DepEd 7 searching for most convenient way to get athletes to Vigan for Palaro
THE DEPARTMENT of Education (DepEd) Region VII is busy looking for the most convenient way to get the athletes of Central Visayas to Vigan in Ilocos Sur for the 61st Palarong Pambansa.
The annual multi-sporting meet featuring the best student-athletes of the every region of the country will be held at the northern city of Luzon from April 15 to 21.
Getting there is already a daunting task, especially for the Visayas and Mindanao delegations that is why DepEd 7 officials are doing their best to come up with a schedule that won’t be too tiring for the 669-strong Central Visayas Regional Athletics Association (Cviraa) team.
Dr. Luz Jandayan, the DepEd 7 Education Support Services Division (ESSD) chief, said they are targeting April 8 as the departure for the team.
Going to Vigan, Ilocos Sur will be a grueling travel that will usually take 22 hours by boat to Manila and an additional 10 to 12 hours going to Vigan by land.
Taking a plane is less hassle and more convenient for the delegates since it only takes one-and-a-half hours from the Mactan Cebu International Airport to the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport in Clark, Pampanga. It will then take them just five hours by land to travel from Clark to Vigan.
Jandayan said they are in the bidding process to choose between an airline or a shipping company to take the delegation to Vigan.
Despite the riff between DepEd 7 and Cebu City Councilor Augustus Joy Young, Jandayan still commends the latter’s efforts to conduct a unified training program for the Cviraa athletes bound for the Palarong Pambansa at the Cebu City Sports Center.
