Is Aegis disbanding?

IS AEGIS the original hugot royalty in the Philippines?

“Parang ngayon lang namin narinig yan. Basta kasi true-to-life story ang mga kanta namin. Lahat ng mga kanta namin ay totoong pinag dadaanan ng composer, the brother of our lead guitarist (Rey Abenoja) pero para sa amin din yun. It also reflects our experiences,” said lead singer Kris Sunot before staging a mini concert at the Tangub City Sports Complex during the city’s 50th charter anniversary celebration last February in Misamis Occidental.

Despite the heavy rain, the Filipino rock band still gave an all-out performance of the 1995 tear-jerking hits “Luha,” Basang Basa Sa Ulan,” and “Sinta.” It also included covers of songs by other Filipino artists such as Michael Laygo’s “Minahal Kita,” Yano’s “Banal Na Aso, Santong Kabayo,” and The Teeth’s “Laklak.”

Also natives of Jimenez in Misamis Occidental, members Abenoja, Kris, Juliet Sunot (vocalist), Mercy Sunot (vocalist), Stella Pabico (keyboard), Rowena Pinpin (bass guitar), and Vilma Goloviogo (drummer) have released five albums with over 10 successful singles in the last 20 years.

To mark the group’s two decades of music, Aegis is cooking up another show this July at the Araneta Coliseum in Manila.

More than sa pera, ang samahan ang pinaka mahalaga,” Kris said, refuting issues on disbanding and establishing solo careers.

Tapos, we treat each other more than family—we have spent more time with the group.”
