President Rodrigo Duterte would sign the executive order to stop “endo” or end of contract on or before May 1, Labor Day, Malacañang assured the public on Monday.
“The President wants it as soon as possible. We all know that Labor Day is May 1. So, I would think that it will come out on or before May 1,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in Palace briefing.
Duterte was supposed to meet with labor leaders in Malacañang this Monday but the Palace has aborted the meeting.
“I can only surmise that the final version of the EO has not been agreed upon by both labor, management, and government. It’s a tripartite document, which has to be agreed upon. So, possibly, they don’t have a final version yet,” Roque said.
The Palace official, however, assured that the EO on contractualization would favor labor groups.
“It is a promise given by the President to labor groups that it will be an EO that will side with the labor forces,” he said.
One of the campaign promises of Duterte in 2016 was to finally put an end to “endo” or end of contract or contractualization in the country.
