FORMER Ateneo de Cebu standout and Cesafi juniors Mythical Five wingman Patrick Wilson Yu is headed off to National University (NU) to join his older brother, Dave Wilson Yu, in what is shaping up to be a stacked Bulldogs squad.

Yu, a 6-foot-3 two-guard, was courted by several schools, including Ateneo de Manila and Far Eastern University. However, in the end, he decided on joining NU.

The younger Yu, explained his decision.

“The reason why I chose to go to NU is not only because they have a great program and coaching staff, but most especially because I found a family there.” Yu said. “The manager, Uncle Manny (Sy), his wife, Auntie Claire and the rest of the family welcomed my brother Dave with much love and open arms and treated him as their own.”

The fact that his older brother, Dave Wilson, a one-time member of the Batang Gilas, is part of the team, also played a huge part in his decision.

“I also really like being in the same program and team as my older brother because I look up to him a lot. Another reason is because I believe that in NU, I can really go places, not just in basketball but also with my future career as an engineer,” he added.

The younger Yu beamed with excitement as he talked about the prospect of sharing the floor with his brother.

“The last time I played with my older brother was probably during the under 10s tournament in Cebu. That’s why I’m extremely excited to be playing with him because I know that I can learn so much under him,” Yu said.

Yu admitted that he still has a long way to go before he’s able to showcase his talents in the UAAP. But he added he’s excited to put in the work to hopefully one day gain a spot on the varsity team.

“I know its going to be really tough to play in the UAAP because the players are much bigger and more experienced compared to myself. And it’s especially going to be a challenge for me because NU has a lot of young talented players.”
