ALEGRIA is turning out to be one of the most improved teams in the ongoing Cebu Governor’s Cup 2018 Inter-Cities/ Municipalities Basketball Tournament after it finished unbeaten in the South Division Bracket 3.
Alegria, which only won one game last year, downed Ginatilan, 82-71, at the Badian Municipal gymnasium on Wednesday evening to top its bracket and bag the P30,000 purse. It also advanced to the quarterfinal round.
Despite the loss, Ginatilan (3-2) still advanced to the quarterfinal round for placing second in the same bracket.
Barili (4-0) also advanced to the quarterfinals for topping the South Division Bracket 4 after escaping Dumanjug (3-1), 99-96, at the Aloguinsan Gym. Dumanjug is the second placer in its bracket and will advance, too.
Other teams that made the quarterfinals are Tuburan (5-0) and Balamban (4-1) from the North Division Bracket 3, and Medellin (5-0) and Bantayan Island (4-1) from the North Division Bracket 4.
Talisay City (4-0) also made it to the next round as the top team in the South Division Bracket 1.
Minglanilla and Naga are the two teams going for the other quarterfinal spot of the same bracket. Both teams still have to re-play the 5-minute overtime period of their controversial game last April 23 to determine who makes it to the quarters.
