JOHN Lester Belano and Adelyn Bensi emerged inaugural champions of the Ayala Center Cebu Juniors and Kids Standard Chess Tournament.

Belano, 12, a varsity wood pusher of University of Cebu (UC), topped the 12-under division yesterday at the Ayala Center Cebu Activity Center after an unbeaten run in the tournament while the 15-year-old Bensi of Saint Andrew School Inc. of Lapu-Lapu City ruled the 16-under category.

Belano is one of the Cebuano woodpushers who is likely to compete in the 19th ASEAN+ Age Group Chess Championships.

The top three wood pushers in the tournament received cash prizes.

The three-day tournament was organized by the Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association (Cepca) in partnership with Ayala Center Cebu.
