Gov’s Cup hoops enters crucial stage

ACTION in the Cebu Governor’s Cup 2018 Inter Cities/Towns Basketball Tournament heats up as the quarterfinal round gets underway today starting in the North division.

North division defending champions and last year’s runner-up Consolacion Sarok Weavers will take on San Francisco in the cluster A competition at 7:30 p.m. at the Consolacion Municipal Gym.

Raising the curtains will be the match between Mandaue City and Borbon at 6:30 p.m.

Cebu Provincial Sports Commission (CPSC) Executive Director Atty. Ramil Abing expects competition to be tougher from hereon.

“All the games in the quarterfinals are very important so I expect that it’s going to be competitive, exciting and fun,” said Abing.

All in all, there are four clusters in the quarterfinal round, two each per division (North and South).

Each cluster has four teams.

They will will face each other in a single-round robin format.

The top two teams in each cluster will advance to the division semifinal round.

There will also be matches in cluster B at the Balamban municipal gym in west Cebu, tonight.

There, Medellin faces Tuburan at 6 p.m. while host team Balamban plays the visiting Bantayan Island at 7:30 p.m.
