Gov’s Cup hoops
THE DEFENDING champion Minglanilla Archangels won’t be able to defend their title in the Cebu Governor’s Cup Inter-Cities/Municipalities Basketball Tournament.
The Archangels were eliminated from the competition following Argao’s 93-88 win over Sibonga in the last quarterfinal game at the Argao Municipal Gym on Thursday evening.
The win improved Argao’s record to 1-2 (win-loss), the same with Minglanilla and Sibonga. But Sibonga got the last ticket to the Southern semis round due to its higher difference after the points quotient system was applied.
Sibonga, thus, joins Talisay City in the semis together with Alegria and Barili. The four will play in a single round-robin format with the top two battling for the South Division Finals.
Erickson Sangoyo fired a game-high 26 points before fouling out in the final 56 seconds of the game for Argao. Ehman Ronen Suarez topscored for Sibonga with 24 points.
