At least 1,000 Job Order (JO) employees of the Mandaue City Hall may already be left jobless next month.
City Administrator Danilo Almendras said they will have to let go of these JOs as part of the city’s efforts to streamline City Hall operations.
Mandaue City Hall has a total of 2,900 JOs employed from January 1 to June 30, 2018.
Their contracts are renewable every six months.
Almendras said all JOs were made to undergo performance evaluation by HRMO to determine who among should be retained during the second half of the year.
In a memo which he issued on Thursday afternoon, Almendras told all of the city’s 2,900 JOs to already cease from reporting for work starting on July 1. But since its a Sunday, the JOs will instead be asked to cease from reporting for work on July 2, a Monday.
“As you are all aware, your appointment will end on June 30, 2018…. The Human Resource Management Office (HRMO) is still preparing the appointments for the second semester of the year after determining the actual personnel requirements of each office or unit. In connection therewith, you are advised not report to your respective offices or units on Monday (and) until such time you receive a copy of the appointment issued for the period of July 1 to December 31, 2018,” said Almendras’s memo.
However, Almendras’ memo will not affect JOs assigned with the Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (Team), the City Public Market and the Department of General Services (DGS).
Department heads can also lobby with Mayor Gabriel Luis Quisumbing to ensure the retention of their office JOs, he said.
Almendras belied reports that the non-renewal of the employment contracts of the 1,000 JOs employment contract is politically motivated.
He said this was part of their efforts to streamline operations in different City Hall offices.
