The new set of barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials of the 1,066 barangays in Cebu started their tenure of office starting at Saturday noon June 30.
Commission on Elections (Comelec) Provincial Supervisor Lionel Marco Castillano said elected officials must submit to the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) some requirements.
These include a Certificate of Proclamation, Certificate of Compliance for those who filed their Statement of Contribution and Expenditures (SOCE) and Oath of Office.
Failure to show the requirements bars these officials from assuming office, Castillano said. He said the barangay and Sk officials can only serve for two years, instead of three, as provided by Republic Act 10952. This means the next barangay and sk elections will be held on May 2020.
