The Land Transportation Office in Central Visayas (LTO-7) will open two full licensing centers in two malls in Cebu by the middle of this month, according to LTO-7 Director Victor Caindec.
These two licensing centers located in SM Seaside City Cebu and Island Central Mactan will process applications for driver’s license renewal, new driver’s license and student permits.
“Kanang duha ka locations, ready na for occupancy.
Na-arrange na ang furniture, nandyan na ang cabling, kuryente.
Ang internet connection na lang ang atong gihulat (These two locations are ready for occupancy. We have already arranged the furniture, the cabling and electricity are already there. We are just waiting for the internet connection),” said Caindec.
Caindec said the licensing offices will also solve the problem of backlog of application for driver’s licenses.
According to Caindec, some offices are processing more than what they are capable of.
“There are offices nga ang capacity kay 60 ra, pero nag-process og 200, (There are offices that can process only 60 licenses, but they process 200),” said Caindec.
The Temporary Offi-Site Printing Office (TOPO) in SM Seaside is expected to process 10,000 driver’s licenses a month, while the one in Mactan can process around 8,000 license applications.
Meanwhile, the LTO-7 has already completed the production of the 23,625 backlogged license plates registered from July 2016 to February 2017.
Caindec said that as of last Monday only 500 license plates were claimed by the owners because of heavy traffic in Cebu.
That’s why, according to Caindec, the LTO-7 will be bringing representatives of the different car dealerships to their office in SM Seaside this Thursday, Friday and Saturday, to get the car plates.
“All they (car owners) have to do is to give their OR and CR and an authorization letter to the representatives tasked to get the license plates,” said Caindec.
The LTO will also monitor those dealers who will ask payment from car owners who want to have their plates released faster.
“The government services of LTO, walay bayad (The government services of LTO are for free),” said Caindec, referring to the release of car plates.
Caindec said that car owners could also visit the LTO website for license plates available for release. /USJ-R Intern Gerard Vincent Francisco
