CEBU netters advanced in their respective categories in yesterday’s start of the Globe Citigreen Junior Tennis Cup 2018 held in separate venues in Cebu City.

Leading the Cebuanos were Kevin Balundo and Paul Helary Coderos, who booked quarterfinals tickets in the 18 Boys in different fashion.

Balundo had to sweat it out to advance to the final 8 with an 8-4 outsmarting of Jessy Ysyldre Elumba while Coderos had a walk in the park as his opponent, Vincent Joshua Adlaon, defaulted the match.

In the 14 Boys, moving on the next round was Josh Mikael Largo, who routed Iman Apat, 8-2.

Ten Cebuanos also posted wins in the 12 Boys. They were John Lope Ouano, RB John Lataza, Chad Connor Cuizon, Gio John Manito, Adrian Suladay, Jonathan Mith Largo, Axel Jhun McKenzie, Clarence Andrei Tabura, Prince Laurence Galeos and Francis Plopenio Jr.

In the distaff side, 11 Cebuanos made it past their opponents.

In the 16 Girls, Jossah Mae Ranas advanced into the second round with an 8-2 lambasting of Claire Guibone while Princess Nichole dela Rita edged Marianne Amelie Matta, 8-7.

In the 14 Girls, Kimberly McKenzie and Amalia Ugarte advanced to the next round via a walk over.

Others who stayed alive in the 14 Girls were Feb Nicole Villar, Eve Denise Onglatco, Kirsten Albofera and Canesia Basalan.

In the 12 Girls, three Cebuanos are still in contention for the title — Angela Neri Corbeta, Joanna Izabel Logrono and CJ Thalia Suson.

Games were still ongoing as of presstime.
