Jpark’s Executive Western Chef Mattia Stroppa wins Gold at Cebu Goes Culinary National Food Showdown; other culinary members win 1 Silver, 2 Bronze and a Diploma

Jpark Island Resort & Waterpark, Mactan Cebu does it again as they ended the culinary showdown among prominent culinary masters in Cebu with a 5 out of 5 standing!

Last September 21 and 22, 2018, the Hotel, Resort & Restaurant Association of Cebu, Inc. (HRRACI) has launched the biggest and most awaited culinary face-off in the Visayas, Cebu Goes Culinary 2018: Learn to Win, at the SM Seaside City Cebu. This culinary event surely was a talk-of-the-town event over the weekend since it appealed to both professionals and students showcasing different competition levels that have displayed their own culinary skills and creativity.

For the Main Course Category of the Professional Level, Jpark’s Executive Western Chef Mattia Pierluigi Stroppa paved his way to the top as he brought home the Gold Medal with his culinary masterpieces of a Pappardelle (in Japan) and Korean Puttanesca while Jpark Island Resort Chefs Maxvel Torion and Chef Jizell Severo both bagged Silver Medals. With their rendition of the famous Pistachio Wasabi Crème Brulee and the Coconut Panna Cotta with Passion Fruit Coulis and Caramelized Macapuno, the judges didn’t even have second thoughts in presenting the highest award to be given to this dynamic duo for the Plated Dessert Category.

Chefs Vanessa Torollo and Bomavil Arboleras both received Bronze Medals for the Soup Bowl Category. With the category’s theme of Fire & Ice, the talented chefs wowed the judges with their Iceberg Gazpacho and Spicy Beetroot Consomme soups.

Another Bronze Medals were awarded to Jpark Island Resort & Waterpark, Mactan Cebu as Chefs Rowena Rollin, Catherine Jaictin and Mary Jean Badal showcased there 5-star culinary skills in the Chef Wars Category. These chefs surely know how to deal with local ingredients as they served Curry Shrimp in Crispy Naan Basket, Taro-Shrimp Dumpling Soup, and Shrimp Farfalle in Spicy Shrimp Sauce.

All Jpark representatives were under the supervision of Executive Malaysian-Chinese Chef Kenny Yong and Food & Beverage Director Christopher Shim.

Jpark Island Resort & Waterpark, Mactan Cebu’s culinary team surely raised the bar in the world of culinary and they just couldn’t wait all future guests to try out their gastronomic treasures across all their 10 superb dining outlets.

Cebu Goes Culinary Event is HRRACI’s flagship project together with National Food Showdown (NFS). This momentous partnership started since 2014 when they piloted “Chef Wars.” The winners in the Visayas Leg will join the National Competition on October 26 and 27, in Manila, Philippines.
