James Anthony Cuenco is set to return to the Cebu City Council after the Court of Appeals has reversed the order of the Ombudsman that earlier dismissed him from service.
In a press conference, Cuenco said he welcomed the ruling of the appellate court and is now preparing for his return to the council.
Cuenco told reporters that his replacement in the council, Erik Miguel Espina, already congratulated him.
Cuenco said he will temporarily rest from politics after the May 2019 elections and will let his father, former Rep. Antonio Cuenco, sit in the council if the latter wins.
The Ombudsman earlier ordered the dismissal of Cuenco for serious dishonesty and grave misconduct in the implementation of the medicine assistance program funded by the Priority Development Assistance Fund of his father.
